I can't really call this a recipe. But it is a recipe for success with toddlers! A perfect after school treat where you open the back door and let them drip and slurp in the backyard ... with a strict rule that they will not be entering the house again before a big wipe down.     Take your favorite Greek yogurt (I use plain with absolutely not a hint of sugar but some of your littles might be accustomed to something sweeter) and smooth it into an even layer on a parchment covere...

Did you know that I got a lovely ice cream maker for my birthday this year?  It's been purrty fun in a country that just really doesn't do ice cream too well.  I've been churning and creating but I haven't been telling you about it.  But since my sister just happened to get her own ice cream maker yesterday for her birthday I figured it's time to start the ice cream posts rolling!   This was a little slice of refreshment!  I'd seen a post for grapefruit sorbet and decide...

I promise that we don't spend all of our days eating cookies, treats, cakes and decadent breakfasts.  Only with two little kids I've found it quite a challenge to ever get a photograph of anything we eat for dinner as I try to diminish cranky, grumbling stomachs while plating four plates all with different tastes (lots of peas for Canaan, no chicken for Eden, etc.) all while the sun sinks lower and lower.         But the other night we started early as Nate had a huge ch...

Liquid yum!  Little flecks of vanilla bean in my drink send it to a whole new level.  I wish I had a vanilla bean garden just for such purposes.    It's sweet with just a bit of musk.  And fizzy fun of course.  Serve it at your next book club gathering ... and if you're daring add a splash of vodka to make things a bit more fun!       Strawberry Vanilla Bean Soda Taken from Free People Blog   2c cut strawberries 1c sugar 1c water 1 vanilla bean J...

I love Autumn.  I love Autumn activities.  I love Autumn weather.  I love Autumn even when I'm living in a country where there is no Autumn because there is no Winter.     I LOVE Autumn cooking.  And this cute and quick little appetizer is the perfect combination of Autumn flavors and ooey gooey brie.  Love.  Love both.  Love all.       I've made it twice in the span of a month.  You must know I love it.  I just might make try...

My blogging has been atrocious lately.  So has my concentration on good, healthy meals been.  We have moved "homes" five times in the past 7 weeks and tomorrow we move again.  Sometimes we have a stove, sometimes we don't.  Sometimes we have access to a full kitchen and sometimes we are sharing.  Hauling a whole bunch of ingredients around just isn't worth it.  And to top it all off we decided to leave our good camera in Ecuador!  So the few good meals or dishe...

Now that Thanksgiving is over, you're being bombarded with new ways to use up all of that leftover turkey.  Well, here's one more.  Generally the majority of my turkey finds its way into either fajitas or some kind of a taco soup ... well, what I can rescue before Nate turns as much of it into gravy sandwiches as he can.     Well this year I found myself with a plethora of leftover green apples, along with the turkey, due to my poor recipe reading skills.  This recipe I ...

Every once in a while we do sneak something in amongst all the pancakes, stuffed french toast, and cinnamon rolls.  But just every once in a while because who am I kidding?  Since when is any kind of oatmeal ever better than a fresh cinnamon roll?   But sometimes it's nice to do something different, to add a little bit of health to your life, but not too much health because oatmeal without brown sugar would be lifeless and pointless.         Banana Pecan Oatmea...

On Bitchin' Kitchen (The Cooking Channel) she made this amazingly, refreshing looking salad.  It had blueberries, pomegranate seeds, a crisp and lemony pita, mint, and a middle eastern cheese I've never heard of.  It sounded SO GOOD, never mind that I could obtain almost none of these ingredients.   So when I went to a different market and found blueberries! for the first time since I've lived here this salad popped straight back into my head and I was determined to make it my own...
