And just like that we are saying goodbye to Early Childhood for good and embracing Elementary School for the next few years. Eden graduated this year, performing a few songs and getting her first diploma. Her award for the year was "Best Reader" and when her teacher asked the class what Eden was good at they resoundingly knew the answer. She's reading chapter books and loves discussing Geronimo Stilton with her brother as they pass them back and forth.  We celebrated the end of school in th...

Eden lost her first tooth on March 5th. She'd gone to the nurse complaining about her teeth hurting, which the nurse solved with some kind of cream. When I got home and she told me that I looked in her mouth and could already see the tooth cutting through. It had been wiggly for awhile and she hadn't noticed. She let me pull it out with my finger that night. Her second tooth came out just about a week later, which I pulled out as well, although with more blood and drama.    Add new com...

Birthday day involved a happy birthday song wakeup and pink french toast with sprinkles. We also gave her a birthday present that morning: her very first bike. She had just learned to ride a few weeks ago on her friend's bike so she was thrilled to have her own. She loved the carrying basket and also the giant bow which she insisted on keeping on the bike. She spent time in the yard with Olivia, our neighbor's dog that she loves. That afternoon we just enjoyed each other and took the kids to the...

A kitty party ... but NOT Hello Kitty Mommy.  That was the request.     She waited a few weeks to celebrate so that her cousins could be in town for the bash! She's been lucky to have a set of cousins with her for two years running now. For me, this has been a year of chosing simplicity in these types of events as I have less margin to plan and prep with my current job. But one thing I've learned is that my kids feel celebrated and special with even the simplest of days and I want...

At five you are showing lots of your fun, spunky, silly personality. While you aren't as outgoing in a crowd or around new people as your brother is, when you are comfortable you are a character. Your facial expressions and your eye rolls constantly cause us to crack up around the dinner table. You are thriving academically. You are a leader in your class academically and socially ... and maybe a wee bit bossy. You have a best friend named Romina and you have seamlessly integrated into your clas...

Our baby has graduated nursery school and is on to preschool at AAI! Her final class performance was called "Fairy Dreams" and was about what each kid wanted to be when they grow up. Eden got to be the fairy, which made her super happy, and she danced and sang with confidence that we haven't seen in other performances.   Eden we are proud of how you have loved your teacher and your classmates well. We are proud that you have been a leader in helping and obeying your teacher. We can't...

It was the teeniest of teeny cuts. (The hair on the floor is Canaan's.) Her hair (at 4.5) still hasn't grown enough to warrant a real cut but my hairdresser suggested trimming the straggly ends to hopefully promote some more growth! Of course she felt super special and big for getting her first haircut. Add new comment...

On Eden's actual birthday we took cupcakes and a pinata to her Alouette class. But first she had breakfast and a photo shoot with her brother at home. It was also a parent participation day at Alouette so first I went and made a Christmas craft with Eden and then Nate and I returned to celebrate her at craft time. Probably Eden's most favorite birthday gifts were her two ballet outfits and her first pair of ballet slippers. She wore these in rain and shine, modesty be darned! We even let ...

This girl was ready to rock it! Being in the oldest preschool class, knowing her classmates and many teachers she was beyond excited to start back. She was excited to be a "Pulpo," (octopus) instantly loved her teacher who she nows calls "Diany" or "Dianita." She felt a little lost at the beginning of the year because her two best friends (Ari and Anto) left to start preschool at their elementary school. She was one of three girls in a class of 15. But she adjusted quickly to playing with the bo...
