This girl was ready to rock it! Being in the oldest preschool class, knowing her classmates and many teachers she was beyond excited to start back. She was excited to be a "Pulpo," (octopus) instantly loved her teacher who she nows calls "Diany" or "Dianita." She felt a little lost at the beginning of the year because her two best friends (Ari and Anto) left to start preschool at their elementary school. She was one of three girls in a class of 15. But she adjusted quickly to playing with the bo...

The boys were camping and we were on our own. You, of course, insisted on your "fireworks" dress and "high heels." You also encouraged me to wear a dress and vetoed any work dress that I wear. We stopped at a restaurant for take out where you ate a nutella swirled breadstick given to you by the big Italian waiter. Then we went to Le Petit Cafe where your eyes immediately landed on the strawberry tart. You ate every strawberry off that tart and then slowly savored each morsel of your treat, slurp...

Just as Canaan did last year at Alouette, Eden helped make Fanesca in honor of Good Friday with her classmates. They then invite all of the parents to come eat Fanesca with their kids and the teachers share a bit about why Good Friday is important. Eden was proud of her help with the Fanesca and readily slurped up her whole bowl. She's braver than I!     Add new comment...

Eden's nursey school has some fun traditions to incorporate grandparents. Super fun ... except that Eden's grandparents can never be there. Fortunately she is still young enough to think it's special to have her mom come with her instead. For Grandma's they host an event called "Cuentos con Chocolate" (Stories with Chocolate) which is a pajama party where grandmother's are asked to bring a story to read, the kids bring their blankets and pretend to all go to sleep together and then they pass out...

Months ago Eden and I came up with the Strawberry theme for her birthday party. I can't remember who suggested it but she was excited and I was excited about it. What I couldn't decide was whether to invite her whole nursery school class to this or not. It seemed dumb to create a big event for just a few friends (her non-school friends) but I also remembered the stress of catering to 45 people, many of whom were parents I didn't know well. Ultimately I decided to do the mini party at her prescho...

Two days after Eden's real birthday we celebrated with her classmates and teachers at Alouette. Nate and I got there early and enjoyed watching Eden front and center in Christmas program rehearsals while we set up. All her classmates knew it was her birthday and wanted to introduce themselves to us. We served white chocolate and sprinkle covered strawberries, strawberry and cream cheese sandwiches, cheetos (a bday must here), and chocolate/strawberry cupcakes. Eden loved it all. She loved the fo...

At three, Eden, you are silly and cuddly. You wake slowly and love to stay in your bed with your blanket. You just might be an infinitely analytical, reflective thinker like your mom and Nona. Your temper is fierce and you let it be known with loud protests against your brother. But your love for him and us is great too and you can't stand the idea of missing out on a hug or time together. One of your farvorite things to do with me is "soft kisses" when you gently kiss me and then we both must e...

Eden participated in her first Christmas program at Alouette. She has been singing the songs for weeks at home and we got a little preview of the program while they practiced at school and we set up for her birthday party with classmates. The day of she was super excited about it. While she had no trouble being up in front of all the parents with cameras and big smiles she did find herself quite distracted by it all and spent much of the program sucking her two fingers and looking at all of the ...

Eden's preschool went on their annual chiva ride to celebrate Fiestas de Quito. She was very excited to go, remembering the whistles and drums from the year prior with Canaan. Being older she is also more aware though so while she enjoyed herself and considered it her favorite part of the day, she was also somewhat nervous. The whole ride she kept asking me to keep my hands tightly around her and didn't even want me clapping. I enjoyed the snuggles and the experience with her.     &nbs...

Eden started nursery school at Allouette on September 2nd. She has been thrilled about the idea of starting school and was especially excited after attending a one week summer camp there with her brother. We purposely had them do the camp together so that Eden could ease into "school" with her brother by her side. Predictably though, it was no big deal to her and she loved summer camp and has loved attending school 3 times a week for about four hours a day.   She has her teacher (and many o...
