It's hard to be in a foreign country when they don't celebrate Thanksgiving! For many of my students their semester here is their first time experiencing a holiday away from home. We try to make it feel homey and celebratory for them so on Wednesday night, our usual chapel dinner night, we go ALL OUT! We double our budget (because turkeys are expensive here - sheesh!) and then each staff member signs up to bring a mountain of their favorite Thanksgiving dish.

There are debates about the right sweet potato casserole and how to cook a turkey and I love it all because it's a time that all staff pitch in together to make the meal happen. I was on stuffing and chocolate pies this year. So fun! We serve the students in the longest assembly line ever and then we all eat together. Instead of our usual chapel message the meal goes long and we play Thanksgiving games and generally celebrate together!
