This is what it looks like to be one day past you due date.  Puffy, chipmunk cheeks, BIG belly that no one can keep their eyes off, oh and ten puffy, piggy toes.  But I won't show you those, with their chipped lacquer and roughened edges from lack of any treatment in the past month of being completely unbendable enough to sustain finger to toe contact for more than 3 seconds.   My dad and I took side by side photos his first day here, which I should get from him to show.  Though I definit...

My friend Catherine is too cute.  Despite the fact that they bought an old Chicago bungalow a little less than a year ago and have about a gazillion house projections going on all the time (which you can read about here) - including things like repairing cracked windows, redoing hardwood floors, and upholstering dining chairs - Catherine still volunteered to do a small sewing project for me.  I saw a "how to" guide on nursing wraps and instantly loved the idea of having one that is unique to m...

Here's Toro & I at 38 weeks, 1 day.     38 weeks means I'm full-term and can be okay with having this baby at any time.  My midwife informed me that they are knocking out births like crazy so that I've now made it to the first page of her list of upcoming moms.  Toro's pretty much as low as he can go, so now it's just a matter of him deciding when he's ready to leave his cushy lifestyle.   Things I'm ready to be done with, especially right now?  The three pillow nightly arrangement tha...

Last Thursday, when this picture was taken, marked exactly 36 weeks into this pregnancy.  Which means right now, Sunday, that I am just 3 1/2 weeks away from my due date.  Can you tell I'm counting down??  3 1/2 weeks to go means 2 nightly wakeups to use the bathroom, 4-5 nightly wakeups because my arm and hand have gone numb and need to be woken up and 1 wakeup, well, just because I guess.  You start saying things like "I can't wait til this pregnancy is over so I can sleep again!"  ... An...

Valentine's Day didn't feel a whole lot different than most other days this year.  We got back from Lake Geneva just in time to have our friends Jarrett and Catherine over for lunch and mentoring.  Then we headed out the door to our fifth birth class where we learned about some good comfort measures and partner work for labor, as well as all about what happens in a C-section.  After that we had the night to ourselves but had no desire to head back out for something fancy.  So I brought just ...

This weekend we did a very mini-getaway to Lake Geneva with Eric and Em.  We really like going out of town with them, getting to do something different, and having quality time together, but it's hard to come by with 4 schedules to coordinate and one 3-year-old to find care for.  But we were determined to make it happen one last time before that number turns into one 3-year-old and 2 newborns between the four of us.   It wasn't a well-planned trip, as I've noticed my decision-making skills an...

* a rant encouraged by Nate.   Nope.  I'm not talking about relaxing.  I'm talking about "relaxin," this chemical that starts working its magic the minute you get pregnant and just continues to infuse your whole body the further along you get.  So I get that this chemical is what makes it possible for all of my hip and pelvic joints to loosen up in a way that they never have before.  Relaxin is part of the miracle of getting my body ready to loosen in a way it NEVER has before.   Well, ton...

Taken last Friday, at 32 weeks, 1 day:     Naps are becoming important again.  I'm spending lots of time on ebay and amazon getting the best deals on items like car seats (being delivered this week) and a hotsling.  Cooking a meal can seem exhausting some days.  I'm having conversations with each client about the termination process.  We're methodically checking each item off the list as we complete it: hospital visits, doctor visits, final ultrasound, three birth classes left, 2 mentoring...

In between the countless delicious meals, long naps, episodes of the next Iron Chef, and game nights with my grandma we did manage to make it out of the house for a few fun Idaho events.  We went to Brick 29 for their Sunday brunch.  This is a gourmet brunch for about $11 the likes of you could never find in Chicago.  My favorite are the blackberry-pomegranate blintzes that they serve.   We went to my parents' rec center, another thing not found in Chicago for the price that they pay.  It's...
