In between the countless delicious meals, long naps, episodes of the next Iron Chef, and game nights with my grandma we did manage to make it out of the house for a few fun Idaho events.  We went to Brick 29 for their Sunday brunch.  This is a gourmet brunch for about $11 the likes of you could never find in Chicago.  My favorite are the blackberry-pomegranate blintzes that they serve.   We went to my parents' rec center, another thing not found in Chicago for the price that they pay.  It's...

We're having a great time all together at my parent's house in Idaho.  We felt really lucky that everyone's travel plans came through on schedule, despite a bit storm throughout the Midwest, and we were able to celebrate Christmas on the 25th.  So far Christmas has involved a lot of really filling and delicious meals, game time with Grandma, cozy reading by the fireplace, and some fun outings.  We've been really bad about taking pictures of any of these.   What Nate did take a picture of was...

This weekend was filled with Christmas-related celebrations.   Friday night I spent a short hour dropping in on a Christmas get-together with my old co-workers from the ad agency.  Many of us hadn't seen each other in 3-4 years.  From there I went straight to the Runyans for our Christmas dinner and gift exchange.  Just as with Thanksgiving, I love that a Christmas tradition has been created to celebrate with friends as well as family.   Em and Eric did a good job of creating a cozy atmosph...

I'm thankful for 60 degree weekend days and the fact that the snow hasn't yet come falling.     I'm thankful for respite and a Saturday every once in a blue moon when we really can do nothing but exactly what we feel like doing.   Add new comment...

We had a fantastic baptism at church this past Sunday.  A young guy gave his testimony, which included a past history of emotional and verbal abuse in his relationships with women.  It was just renewing for me to hear his story in juxtaposition to my work where every day I hear stories about men who don’t stop and aren’t remorseful.  This guy’s story was powerful and full of hope because Jesus is central to his transformation.   Truly, every baptism at New Life is fantastic.  I...

movie is NOT for the faint of heart or easily squeamish.  While I am 98% convinced that I will make the switch to a midwife and birthing center before the end of November, I am not convinced about particular highlights of the movie.  There are two things I am convinced I will not be doing: Pulling the baby out of me with my own two hands (99.9%) Giving birth naked from head to toe (100%) Add new comment...
